Caversham Swans arrived at Cox Green looking to extend their 100% record for the season on the astro turf pitch. Boyne Hill stood in their way and a tight and scrappy first 10 minutes saw few chances for either team. Lucy started to see more of the ball on the right wing and was too quick for their defence - Abby and Lally were also a constant threat through the middle. Our back 5 were holding firm with Serena alert, Niamh and Martha very solid in the middle and Olivia and Lianna dealing with their wingers. 20 minutes in, Grace split the defence with a through ball and a good low shot from Lucy which the keeper shuffled like a pack of cards and then spilled like a cup of tea to give Caversham the lead. Boyne Hill reacted well and pressed hard with Leah getting in some fine tackles in the middle. Ruby then picked up a through ball and fired a fierce shot into the corner to make it 2 - 0. Boyne Hill could easily have dropped their heads, but they weren’t done and they pushed forward strongly before the half time whistle........ again the Swans stood firm.
A tight second half saw some great performances with Anna standing out with some great challenges and headers and Leonie pressing their defence high up. Another solid performance by Maud who linked up well with Ruby down the right wing putting in some good passes to Ruby who ran their defence ragged and was unlucky not to have scored again. Other chances came our way with Grace putting a long range shot just wide and Lucy breaking through the defence to see the effort go the wrong side of the post. Lucy dropped into Centre midfield and formed a solid partnership with Izzy. Caversham kept their focus to the final whistle and secured another well deserved 3 points. The player of the match was a difficult choice, but Anna and Izzy decided to share.
