Disappointment for Caversham

With just one defeat in eight, Caversham travelled to Summerleaze in confident mood following the re-arrangement of their fixture to Maidenhead. With the late kick-off causing issues with player availability, Caversham knew they had to get off to a quick start and played an attacking formation to try and secure early goals. However, it was a much improved Boyne Hill who caused chaos with the Caversham defence and it was evident right from the kick-off that Boyne Hill were the hungrier team as they looked to build on recent futsal success and their first point of the season in their previous game. Boyne Hill's opener did appear to be taken out the hands of Serena, but with Boyne Hill having hit the post twice and having had a goal dis-allowed, there could be no complaint as Caversham failed to clear their defensive lines time and again. There were some glimpses of hope as Ruby caught Boyne Hill on the break and was unlucky not to find an equaliser before half time. The second half required a complete re-think as 3 players had to return to Caversham early leaving just 8 to complete the game. Tia moved to central defence and had a solid second half with Olivia. Daisy and Ruby operated as wing backs for the first time and this approach shored up the defence. However, as the game drew to a close and Caversham pressed for an equaliser, they were left 4 on 2 once too often as Daisy and Ruby worked themselves into the ground. As a result Boyne Hill found a deserved second goal late in the game. Caversham heads dropped and a third quickly followed. This appeared to spark some anger into the Caversham team with player of the match Evie slamming home a consolation and Ruby going close right at the death. It was a small ray of light in a dismal game for Caversham, but take nothing away from Boyne Hill who thoroughly deserved their first win of the season.
