Late goals seal the win for Caversham

Evie scored her third hatrick of the season in a 10 minute spell towards the end of the game against Tilehurst Panthers Colts at Clayfield Copse. The late goal flurry ensured Caversham secured the double over Tilehurst after withstanding some serious pressure early in the second half. It was a fantastic result that came as reward for a solid and committed performance by the whole team. Caversham edged the first half and created the better chances as Daisy, Evie and Ruby all caused problems for the Tilehurst defence. However, it was a stella performance from the midfield of Izzy, Saffron, Anna and player of the match Grace that won the game as they closed everything down and moved the ball forward quickly. With Tilehurst unable to settle, their talented players created very little in the first half and when Issy popped up to score her second of the season Caversham took a justified lead. Caversham knew Tilehurst would come out fighting as they played down the hill, but with Olivia organizing the defence and Nimah, Martha and Leah all defending brilliantly Tilehurst were limited to half chances that Serena was able to deal with. With the game at 1-0 Serena pulled off a great save to prevent the equalizer and as Tilehurst tired Caversham took them apart in a ruthless display of counter attacking football. Evie tricked her way through the defence and was able to skip away to be one on one with the keeper. The keeper made a good stop, but Evie was able to pick up the rebound to make it 2-0. As Tilehurst pushed forward to try and save the game, space opened up and again Evie's turn of pace took her through one on one with the keeper and with a composed finish she slotted the ball past her to secure all three points. With the clock ticking down Tilehurst got a consolation, but there was still time for Evie to net her 3rd of the game before the end and when Grace charged forward with the ball in the dying seconds it looked like she might make it 5 for Caversham. It would have been harsh on Tilehurst though as the game was much closer than the score already suggested.
