Caversham AFC 5 - 4 Shinfield Rangers

Caversham grabbed all three points in a topsy turvey game against Shinfield Rangers at Clayfield Copse. Daisy got two early goals to set Caversham on course for what looked like would be a comfortable morning. However, Caversham never really controlled the game and Shinfield always looked dangerous as they appeared to have more commitment to the loose ball than Caversham. Shinfield pulled a deserved goal back before Evie finally found the back of the net having had two previous efforts ruled out for off-side. Perhaps taking the 3-1 lead into half time made Caversham a bit complacent, but with Tia, Anna, Saffron and Izzy all causing problems in midfield for Shinfield more goals seemed inevitable as Daisy and Evie both forced outstanding saves from the Shinfield keeper. Shinfield picked up a loose ball in midfield and a wonder strike brought the game back to 3-2. Evie then found the net again for her second leaving both Daisy and Evie to hunt down a hatrick. However with the game drawing to a close, it became a bit frantic and despite solid defensive performances from Lianna, Olivia and player of the match Niamh, Shinfield managed to find a way back into the game scoring, twice in close succession. It was harsh for Serena who had had another very assured game between the sticks. It looked for all the world like Caversham had thrown away a two goal cushion, but rather than fold, they went on the attack to find a winner. Daisy had created a brilliant chance for glory in the dying minutes, but shanked her shot passed the post. However, there was still time on the clock and when the ball fell to Saffron on the edge of the box , she managed to lob a shot over everyone for an excellent and crucial winning goal with virtually the last kick of the game.
