Winnersh Rangers 4 - 1 Caversham AFC

Caversham lost to a well organised Winnersh side at Bearwood Recreation Ground. Caversham started the game strongly and a good save denied Evie an opening goal shortly before Anna had a great run on goal, but just failed to get her shot away. However, with Winnersh passing the ball better than Caversham, the pressure told and a mix up in the Caversham defence led to a scrambled opener. Soon after a free kick was awarded on the edge of the box for a handball and Winnersh fired the dead ball passed Serena into the top corner for a well taken second. With the weather and pitch size causing issues for Caversham they played without the intensity and discipline of previous games and the Winnersh players sensed the opportunity. Caversham were fortunate to still be in the game at half-time, but any hope of the kind of second half performance we saw against Windsor was short lived when Winnersh secured the win with two early goals in the second half. With Caversham now staring down the barrel of a very heavy defeat, player of the match Martha, rallied the defence as Caversham looked to take some consolation from the game. The break came when Daisy fired in her 4th of the season by capitalising on a rare goal keeping error. Suddenly Caversham looked competitive and energised and moments later Daisy skipped through the defence only to put her shot marginally over the bar. It was some consolation that Caversham dominated the last quarter of the game, but ultimately it was too little, too late on what was a disappointing morning.
