Caversham AFC 2 - 3 Windsor FC

Caversham fought back from three goals down to set up a barn storming finish in their opening BCGFL game at Clayfield Copse. A slow start from Caversham saw a well organised and very talented Windsor team take a deserved 2-0 lead early the game. As Caversham chased shadows, Windsor looked to have completed a comfortable victory when they found the net for their 3rd just before half time. With Caversham rarely troubling the Windsor keeper, Serena was kept very busy between the sticks and her brilliant goal keeping prevented Windsor from taking the game completely away. With Caversham staring down the barrel of an embarrassing opening day defeat there were a few choice words at half time and a re-focussed team looked to salvage some pride as they played down the Clayfield slope. The game quickly balanced out as Grace led the defensive line with Leah, Olivia and Niamh all putting in great defensive second half performances. With Serena, Caversham's player of the match, ensuring no further goals were shipped, Daisy, Tia, Anna, Helena and Saffron all played significant roles in controlling the midfield. Windsor's back line looked vulnerable to the pace of Evie and Tia and so it proved to be as Evie bagged her first of the season towards the end of the game. A second for Tia quickly followed and suddenly the game had turned. Caversham pressed for the equaliser and Serena made some great saves as Windsor counter attacked. With just minutes remaining Caversham couldn't find the 3rd to rescue a point and Windsor looked very relieved to hear the final whistle.
