Caversham AFC 2 - 0 Winnersh Rangers Diamonds

Caversham sunk table topping Winnersh Rangers Diamonds with two late goals in a thrilling game at Clayfield Copse. Winnersh started stronger, but Caversham defended well in a first half of few real chances. After the break and with the game opening up, Niamh, Helen, Olivia and Saffron all put in assured defensive displays to prevent Winnersh creating any real danger. The only time the defence was breached, Serena pulled off a superb point blank save to keep the score at 0-0. Meanwhile Ruby, Grace and Daisy were making their hard work pay as they started to win the midfield battle and open up chances for Helena, Evie and Tia. The warning signs came when Ruby threaded a ball through to Evie who looked certain to score when through one on one with the Winnersh keeper who did well to block the shot. With Caversham now scenting victory they didn't have to wait long for player of the match Ruby to put Evie through again and this time she made no mistake. Caversham attacked again from the re-start with Tia brilliantly taking the ball forward and splitting the defence and drawing the keeper. With support from Daisy in the middle facing an open goal Tia couldn't quite find the pass to kill the game off. With the match entering the last couple of minutes, Winnersh pressed for an equaliser, but with all players now defending, Evie won the ball in Caversham's penalty area and broke with speed to run the length of the pitch and finish the game off with a superb second goal.
