Caversham AFC lost their opening game of the BCGFL season 1-0 to Winnersh Rangers Stingers in a close and competitive game at Clayfield Copse. With Grace, Olivia and Evie all making their debuts for Caversham it took the team time to settle into the new 9 a-side format. Standout player Helen led the Caversham defence as they withstood early pressure and in a first half of few chances, the best scoring opportunities actually fell to Caversham's Martha and Evie as the Winnersh defence was split open twice before half time. The second half saw significant pressure from Winnersh and they eventually took the lead midway through the second half. The goal was unfortunate from a Caversham perspective as they paid the price for not clearing their lines and leaving Winnersh with a straight forward opportunity to take the lead. Grace had a fantastic game in central midfield creating a number of chances for Ruby, the best of which saw Ruby split the defence to run clear only to be flagged for off-side. A promising start for the whole team, especially player of the match Evie, but disappointment that nothing was taken from it.
