Futsal is an indoor variation on football, with an emphasis on speed and skill. The girls played a series of 8 minute, 5 a side, matches. Wins against Ascot Emeralds, Sandhurst Town and Wokingham & Emmbrook, along with draws against Tilehurst Panthers and Thatcham Town, saw Caversham joint top of their group and through to the knock out stages.
They met a strong Wargrave team in the quarter final, but held out for a well deserved 1-0 win. The semi-final against Purley Jubilee saw the girls turn on the style, booking their place in the final with a 4-1 win. Final opponents Twyford Comets started very brightly, and only sharp Caversham defending and goalkeeping kept it 0-0. Caversham then took the lead only to be pegged back to 1-1 almost immediately. Relentless Caversham pressure ultimately paid dividends though, scoring two great goals for a 3-1 lead that proved unassailable.
Thanks as ever to all the parents for their support, and to BCGFL for a very well organised event. Congratulations girls!
