German Exchange 2011
DSV04 @ Caversham AFC
Caversham AFC Kites hosted the Dusseldorf DSV04 contingent over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend. There were 13 boys and 19 parents making the trip from Dusseldorf by coach.
On Good Friday, the Kites played the DSV04 team in a friendly 11-aside match at Reading Hockey Club, which the Kites won 5-0. After the match, a buffet supper and drinks were held in which parents and boys got acquainted.
On the Saturday, the DSV04 contingent visited London for shopping and sightseeing. On their return a beer and skittles night was held, which cemented friendships and was great fun.
Easter Sunday involved a tournament at Reading Town FC, involving the 'Kites', 'DSV04', 'Fleet Spurs BOCA' and a 'Caversham All Stars U14' teams. The tournament was closely contested, with the Kites and All Stars making the final. A BBQ, beers and social evening at the club and later on in Caversham were held for parents and boys.
Bank Holiday Monday, the Caversham boys took the DSV04 boys shopping in Reading. We then took our German friends to watch the 'Reading FC' vs. 'Sheffield Utd' match at the Madejski. Both teams got on the pitch at half time to do the penalty shoot out, which was a great experience for all the boys. At the end of the match we said our goodbyes and waved our new friends off back to Dusseldorf.

In the afternoon DSV04 played their last league match and the 'Kites' cheered on their new German friends. This was followed by an evening BBQ and beach football event. It was a great success, culminating in Barcelona beating Man Utd in the CL final.
On Sunday the 'Kites' played in the 'DSV04 International tournament' it was a great event, which came down to 'DSV04' needing to beat the 'Kites' to win their own tournament. As good guest we obliged, DSV04 running out 2-0 winners. However, the Caversham Dads, showed no such sentiment beating the German Dads by the same score to restore national pride. A great evening ensued and boys and parents had a great time.
We flew back to Heathrow very early on the Bank Holiday Monday, just in time for the majority of the Kites to visit Wembley to watch Reading play Swansea in the play-offs.
Both weekends were a great success and enjoyed immensley by all the Kites, parents and families.
